- Dr Georgios Papaioannou is a Professor in Museology / Museum Studies, Digital Cultural Heritage,
and the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums)
- Has a strong interdisciplinary background in archaeology, cultural heritage, classics and Information Technology with +165 research publications
- Studied in Greece (BA Ioannina), the U.K. (MA at University College London, PhD at King’s College London) and Spain (La Laguna), and has had trainings in the USA (Harvard, Columbia)
and the U.K. (UCL, CILIP)
- Directed 30+ internationally-funded research projects on cultural/museum works in the Mediterranean and the Arab world (Greece, Cyprus, Syria, Jordan, Oman, Qatar)
- Has 25+ years of experience in excavations and heritage dissemination work in the Mediterranean and in the Arab World (Jordan, Syria, Oman, Qatar)
- Has founded and organized museums and exhibitions in the Arab World and elsewhere, including the Museum at the Lowest Place on Earth in the Dead Sea (Jordan) and the
Ras al-Hadd experience (Oman)
- Has taught for 25+ years at universities in Greece, UK, USA, Australia, France, Cyprus, Jordan and Qatar with teaching excellence awards
- Has produced and delivered Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses for library, archives and museum professionals in the Mediterranean and the Arab World
- His affiliations include: Member of the EUROPEANA Network Association, Member of the Pool of Experts of the European Museum Academy, Member of the International Council
